Rolling Fields Elder Celebrates 100th Birthday

Shirley Marie Davis, an Elder at Rolling Fields Elder Care community, a Heritage skilled nursing community in Conneautville, PA, just celebrated a very special milestone—her 100th birthday!

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, a traditional party was not possible, however, Shirley was joined by family members via Zoom on the computer for a very special electronic visit, coordinated by Rolling Fields care partners, to make her day extra wonderful. “They were so happy they could celebrate with her,” said Sara King, Rolling Fields Administrator.

Lisa Haglund, Heritage President and CEO, shared how important living a vibrant life is for seniors who call Rolling Fields home. Even amidst the unprecedented events and regulations of the COVID-19 pandemic, Elders and staff have found creative and unique ways to remain engaged and be part of their community. She shared, “We are blessed to be able to serve our Elders. The seniors that we serve deserve the very best from us during this difficult time, and our Heritage teams, from chaplaincy to activities and everyone in between, are committed to using love, imagination, innovation, and faith to find ways to encourage and provide hope in the midst of this pandemic.”

Shirley was born in Corry, Pennsylvania to a large family, and shared that she was one of 12 children growing up. Shirley and her husband, the late Elvry Davis, had two children of their own, Bill and Alverna. After living in the Linesville, Pennsylvania area for most of her life, Shirley made the decision to call Rolling Fields home in December 2018. While celebrating her special day with those whom she loves, Shirley was asked how she felt about reaching such a significant milestone. She said that she enjoys her daily life at Rolling Fields, even during the pandemic, and shared that the secret to staying happy and reaching 100 is to “stay active”, mentioning that she even mowed her own lawn until she was 98 years old, and more importantly, “to enjoy a lot of candy, because having a sweet tooth helps!”
