Our Specialized Dementia Unit provides for the needs of Elders with cognitive impairments such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
This secure living area has an interior walking track and a courtyard with a gazebo, gardens and children's play area. Here, Elders enjoy the interior wall sized aviary, specially designed activities, music and a relaxing outdoor porch.
Music & Memory
In May of 2014, Rolling Fields became certified to implement Music & Memory in our home. This program utilizesIpods to bring the power of music and improve the quality of life for Elders living with Dementia. Research has shown that music is deeply tied to the emotional aspects of the mind. By implementing Music & Memory in our home we are creating a unique opportunity to use the power of music to help Elders connect to their memories. As care partners, we have witnessed how it helps Elders cope with the difficulties of Dementia, as an aid during rehabilitative therapy and for the overall quality of their lives.
“As an intern coming into Rolling Fields and experiencing Music & Memory for the first time it has been wonderful to see the impact that Music & Memory can have on the Elders. I have seen when an Elder is having a difficult day and someone will put the headphones on them and you can just see it in the elders face the feeling of calmness that the music brings to them. As we continue to implement Music & Memory on Elm Street we are hopeful that it will benefit the quality of life for the Elders. In my experience, when an elder is experiencing mood and behavior issues, Music & Memory is giving us an opportunity to intervene and help them in a way that creates a relaxing and calming effect on them.” Lexi Caldwell, Edinboro University Intern
